Bringing Sensory Technology to Life at Circle of Care’s Adult Day Program
At Circle of Care’s Adult Day Program (ADP), which provides stimulating activities for clients living with dementia and frailty, we are always exploring innovative ways to enhance engagement, wellbeing, and connection. One of the newest additions helping us do just that is the OMI Interactive Motion Activated Projector system.
You might be wondering, what exactly is this?
Think of it as a technology that transforms ordinary surfaces like floors, walls, or tables into dynamic, interactive environments. Using motion-sensing technology, the projector responds instantly to movement, touch, and even small gestures. Step forward, and the scene changes. Reach out, and something responds. There are no complicated instructions—just natural, intuitive interaction.
At our Adult Day Program, we use a mobile version of this technology, the omiVista Mobii. Its portability and flexibility mean we can quickly adapt activities to meet the needs, abilities, and preferences of each individual in the room. Whether we are offering a calming visual experience, a gentle game, or a group activity, the goal remains the same: to support movement, stimulate curiosity, and encourage meaningful engagement.
The impact of the OMI system ha
s been especially meaningful at our Adult Day Program. We’ve seen individuals who don’t usually take the first step become curious and engaged—moving closer, reaching out, and interacting with the projections in their own way. Because the system responds immediately to movement, it naturally draws people in and makes it easier to participate, regardless of ability or confidence level.
Once people are engaged, it often becomes a shared experience. Clients gather around the projection, watch what others are doing, and join in at their own pace. We see moments of laughter, conversation, and encouragement as people participate together, whether they are actively playing or simply enjoying the activity side by side.
More broadly, sensory-based programming like this is known to support emotional well-being. It can help reduce anxiety, decrease boredom, and promote a sense of calm and focus. Just as importantly, it offers choice, allowing individuals to engage in ways that feel right for them, at their own pace.
At Circle of Care’s Adult Day Program, we are always looking for ways to keep participants engaged and improve their quality of life, while also providing essential respite for caregivers. The introduction of new technologies like the OMI system is a great example: it offers fresh ways to stimulate and connect participants, giving caregivers confidence that their loved ones are active and supported throughout the day.
