Describe your volunteer experience.
I volunteer in the office, completing clerical work. I enter data and prepare documents that are used by staff to help clients. I also volunteer as a Phone Pal, connecting with older adults in my free time and just chatting with them.
What inspired you to volunteer with Circle of Care?
My passion lies in helping others. Doing volunteer work gives me the opportunity to contribute to an organization that provides home health care and community support services to help older adults live healthier, happier, and longer lives independently. I would like to think that in some small way, my contribution will help to make our community a better place to live in.
Has volunteering changed your outlook in any way?
Working with the people at Circle of Care, who are working together to help others, has made me more passionate and committed to the cause. In a way, by doing my small part, I am not just helping the organization but also helping myself become a better person. It brings meaning and purpose to your life when you volunteer.
What’s one piece of advice you would give to another volunteer?
To help someone you have to be a kind, compassionate and generous person. It is rewarding and can bring meaning and purpose to your life, while increasing your self-esteem. Volunteering is a commitment and should be taken seriously. So, before you commit, choose a cause you are passionate about because your actions are going to impact the lives of others who are counting on you for support.
