Cathy T., is the recipient of the 2023-2024 Award for Collaboration – one of the highest honours within Circle of Care’s employee recognition program, Champions of Care.

Cathy’s Journey into Social Work

Cathy was inspired to pursue a career in social work in high school, during a period when her grandfather was very ill. A Social Worker provided support to her family during this difficult period, helping Cathy navigate her feelings and find answers to her questions. This experience ignited Cathy’s passion to carry on this valuable work herself, aiming to empower and guide others facing similar challenges.

Supporting Others through Collaboration

For Cathy, social work is about equipping individuals with the tools they need to be able to navigate life independently. Supporting others as they make important decisions and achieve their goals is what providers her with fulfillment.

Cathy’s generous spirit, dedication, and attention to detail have been a valuable asset to her team at Circle of Care’s Adult Day Program for people living with memory loss. “We are a small and busy team providing support to 50+ clients, so we we need versatile, dedicated staff,” says Patricia, her fellow co-worker. Cathy’s committed approach ensures that urgent matters are addressed efficiently and helps the team maintain smooth operations by stepping in to complete tasks and connecting with others in the organization.

Cathy excels at collaborating with others to find solutions. “Collaboration is acknowledging your strengths, while also giving room for others to shine,” says Cathy. “I find it very important to be honest and say I don’t have all the answers, but we can work together on getting them.” She values different perspectives and believes that collective insights lead to better outcomes.

Celebrated for her Contributions

Cathy’s outstanding compassion, dedication, and collaborative spirit were recognized by those around her with the Award for Collaboration from our Champions of Care Program. This award is given to a person who works together with others to provide a seamless system of care. They listen with understanding, communicate openly and learn from each other. They seek and embrace meaningful partnerships that contribute to achieving our vision.

Cathy was honoured to receive this recognition. “It felt good,” says Cathy, “I was surprised because I didn’t know who initially nominated me for the award. It was a very nice surprise.”

Cathy’s openness and commitment to collaboration and care provide an inspiring example of what we can accomplish when we work together.
